Sweet, golden, delicious… and great for using to enhance your beauty! Honey is an amazing natural beauty aid. Try these seven recipes to use the true power of honey.

1. Softening your skin

To get soft, clear skin, add half a cup to a cup of honey to your bath (depending on the amount of water; you can experiment with this) and stir it in, then climb in and enjoy just like a normal bath. It moisturizes your skin to help keep it hydrated and elastic and soothe wrinkles. It also won’t irritate skin like many other bath additives for those who are sensitive to different artificial beauty products.

2. Natural facial scrub

A small pinch of finely ground-up almonds, a few drops of lemon juice and a tablespoon of honey mixed together make a very effective daily facial scrub to help exfoliate your skin and moisturize. After applying, leave it on for about five minutes (less if you feel the lemon juice stinging) and then rinse off with warm water.

3. Facial mask

Honey by itself makes an excellent facial mask when your skin is too dry or you have pimples. Soak a washcloth in warm water, then rest it over your face for a minute to help open your facial pores. Then, spread a little honey over your face and relax for about twenty minutes while the honey dries. Finally, scrub off the mask and splash your face with cold water to close your pores again.

4. Hair conditioner

Get a large container and pour in four cups of warm water, then stir in two tablespoons of honey, plus a dash of lemon juice if you like (particularly if your hair is blonde). Work the mixture through your hair, and don’t rinse it out afterwards – this is a great leave-in conditioner to help improve the shine and tone of your hair for much less money than commercial products, with better results.

5. Pimple treatments

Do you have a pimple the night before a big event? Leave it to honey to help you! Mix a dab of honey with a tiny bit of cinnamon powder, if you have it, then apply it to your pimple, whitehead or blackhead overnight. Make sure you don’t roll onto your front for at least half an hour to let it dry completely, though. In the morning, rinse it off and if the pimple still looks bad, you can try applying honey again.

6. Breath freshener

Do you hate the taste of traditional gargling products that are supposed to keep your breath fresh? Try using this natural recipe instead. A glass of warm water with a teaspoon of fresh honey and a little bit of cinnamon powder, if you have it, tastes much better. It also helps prevent irritating your throat and mouth like artificial chemicals might.

7. “Special occasions” face mask

If you want something a little fancier than a pure honey face mask, try this one out. Blend together an egg white and a tablespoon of honey, then use a little pastry or cosmetics brush to brush the mixture onto your face. Lie there and relax for ten minutes, then wash with warm water.

With the help of honey, you can keep your skin fresh and clear and your hair in great condition, all for much less money than similar artificial treatments would cost!
