Some small business owners have a difficult time determining if they are on the right track. They like to believe that everything is going right, but deep down inside have some doubts as to what the future holds.  If you can truly say that your small business is on the right track you are in good shape. On the other hand, if you are having some doubts there is no better time than now to make some changes and get a better idea of what to expect in the future.

Here are three details that can help you determine whether or not your small business is on the right track:

1. Are you following your business and marketing plans? This is one of the most important questions to ask and answer. If you are following your plan there is a good chance that you are on the right track. This is particularly true if you trust that your plan is the right one.

2. Have you charted past failures and successes? With this, you can look back and determine what has gone wrong and what has gone right. This also gives you the chance to see how much or little progress you have made. Don’t be surprised if you look back and realize that you have come a long way. And even if you don’t, at least you can now see where you stand. It is better to know what has happened in the past than it is to fool yourself.

3. Progress is important – no matter which steps you are taking. The last thing you want is to find that your business is standing still. You have to make progress, day after day, in order to feel that you are on the path to future success. This does not mean that you have to close a huge deal everyday of the week. Instead, make sure you are always moving forward no matter what it takes.

It is not always easy to be honest and determine if your small business is on the right track. Of course, you don’t have a choice but to do this. Those who are honest with their progress have a much better chance of achieving long term success.

The three details above should help you determine whether or not you are on track. If you find that changes are needed, don’t hesitate in switching things up.
